Stuart Mudge, our new Senior Project Manager, comes to us with years of experience as both a design engineer and project manager in the marine industry, thanks to his time with Raymarine in the UK. When his wife, who lived in Auckland for several years prior to meeting Stuart, expressed interest in moving back to New Zealand, Stuart took the opportunity to look into companies that would interest and challenge him.
“I had heard of Fusion, as they are a partner of Raymarine, and I was impressed by their products, so I contacted them,” says Stuart. It turned of to be a case of being in the right place at the right time. “The planets aligned for me. Fusion wanted to strengthen the project management side of the business, and I had experience in both project management and marine engineering.”
Stuart landed in Auckland less than a week before taking up his new job, moving in to a house devoid of furniture while he and his wife wait for it to arrive. “We’re currently living out of a suitcase – it’s like camping in our own house,” says Stuart. Since arriving, they have taken advantage of the local beaches, but have spent the majority of their time painting and fixing up the house.
Stuart, who last visited New Zealand two years ago on his honeymoon, positively raves about the beauty of this country. Says Stuart, “It’s an absolutely stunning country, the scenery is spectacular. People have complained about the rain this summer, but when you come from England, this is like a walk in the park.”
Stuart is so far loving the new challenges that a new home and new job have given him. “I’m just settling in at Fusion. There’s a great bunch of engineers who’ve created some really good products. Hopefully I can just augment that.” Stuart is currently picking up the reins on a top secret project (hush hush), and expresses a great desire to work with the team to get it to market as planned. Right now, he’s just enjoying the ride. “It’s a new experience every day.”
